2016 Retrospective: A Brave New World

As now seems customary (sorry it’s a little late), every year I write an end of year review here on the club page. You can read last year’s here.

I think it’s good to look back and look at the positives of our year. As a goal oriented person, I also like to see what I did and what I didn’t do versus my targets. Looking back also allows us to look forward. What do we want to do this year? What did you miss that really rankles you this year?

For me – The elusive century ride is still out of my grasp. And, while I completed 2,500 miles on the bike, I missed my increased personal target of 4,000 miles by some way. I have some fairly large mitigating circumstances though, Sir. Honest.

Sunday 21st Feb Ride – Rob’s Rossendale Roller

A reminder of the details for the ride this Sunday. Depending on the weather we may have to propose a shorter route but let’s see how the weather pans out.

Please check back for updates, especially on the morning of the ride.

Sunday February 21st 2016 – Big Ride – Rob’s Rossendale Roller // 9am

Route:  Rob’s Ross. Roleur (click to visit the GPX route)

Distance: 52 miles

Climbs: 3,500ft (ish)

Moving Time: 4 – 4.5 hours approx. (not counting stops)
Our ‘Big’ rides through winter are usually not quite as long as the usual ones but we usually have a couple of route to choose from. These rides are our more testing, slightly longer and slightly harder rides. If you’re unsure of your fitness/hill fitness, then please feel free to come and try out a ‘Standard’ ride first before joining the ‘Big’ rides.

February’s big ride has been planned by Rob. We take in rolling hills up through Bury and up into Rossendale. Route can be viewed and downloaded here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/11874251

52 miles and around 3,500ft of climbing should be a nice test for this time of year and ,while challenging, shouldn’t be overly arduous compared to some of our tougher big rides. Let’s just cross our fingers for decent weather so we can stay dry and enjoy the nice scenery.

If the weather really sucks then we will have a shorter route as a back up.

Here’s a link to some important information/safety stuff about our rides, please have a read before attending our rides. https://allezprestwich.co.uk/ride-information-safety-tips/

Also, please check here, on Facebook or Twitter channels periodically, and especially the day of the ride, to ensure nothing has changed. We sometimes have to make weather enforced changes to start times or in extremes may even have to cancel rides.
